The Making of a Pastor
I remember the family telling stories about little Joe. He was an adopted son of James C. Reed and Mildred Reed. He got sick and died probably not too long after this picture was taken. Carol Sirculomb may have more information on him.
Aunt Mildred wife of James C. Reed and mother of little Joe related an interesting story about him that took place not long before he died. I will relate this tomorrow.
Aunt Mildred, mother of Joe told this story a couple of times. Joe became very sick (not sure what age maybe 6 or there about) and he seemed to be getting worse. Mildred stayed close by and doing all she could to help him, as a loving mother would do. He became restless and said ” I want to go up. I want to go up.” Mildred said she bent over him and asked him “up where—– where do you want to go?” He turned and look straight at her and said “Up to Heaven.” Mildred said after hearing this from her young son she never again feared death. I remember hearing this story from her myself. I don’t remember if he died soon after this or not, but he did pass away. When I go to York next time I will go to the cemetery and check the directory for any burial information.
